A Method for Catheter Navigation within Realistic Three-Dimensional Cardiac Anatomy
نویسندگان
چکیده
We recently combined noncontact mapping and intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) in a single cathetersystem that permitted detailed, single-beat, 3-D electricalanatomical imaging of the heart. In the present study we developed a nonfluoroscopic electrode-catheter localization method and integrated it with noncontact electrical-anatomical imaging. The difference in nonfluoroscopic electrode locations compared to ICE was 6.3±3.4 mm, while error in reproducibility of the nonfluoroscopic method was 0.7±1.0 mm. Therefore, accurate and reproducible nonfluoroscopic localization and navigation of standard electrode-catheters within true and detailed 3-D images of cardiac anatomy is feasible. This approach may facilitate diagnosis of arrhythmias and advance their therapy.

A nonfluoroscopic approach for electrophysiology and catheter ablation procedures using a three-dimensional navigation system.
BACKGROUND Three-dimensional (3D) electroanatomical navigation systems decrease the fluoroscopy time of electrophysiology and ablation procedures. The aim of this study was to assess the safety and efficacy of a complete nonfluoroscopic approach for electrophysiologic studies and right-sided catheter ablations for supraventricular tachycardia in patients with normal cardiac anatomy using a 3D, ...

The CARTO system is a new, non fluoroscopic method for mapping designed of associating a specific intracardiac electrocardiogram with the endocardial location from which it has been recorded. Thus for the first time, the CARTO system allows precise correlation of electrophysiological information with cardiac anatomy. It acquires, through a special catheter, and then displays on its computer scr...
متن کاملPulmonary Vein Isolation with a Multielectrode Basket Catheter
Pulmonary vein (PV) isolation (PVI) techniques have evolved as a curative treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF) since PVI guided by circumferential mapping with a circular catheter was initially proposed. A multielectrode basket catheter (MBC) is also useful for PVI because of some advantages; (1) an MBC provides some information about the PV anatomy on the fluoroscopic image, (2) an MBC can ut...
متن کاملThree-dimensional image integration: a first experience with guidance of atrial fibrillation ablations.
The treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF) can be challenging, with a rate control strategy not being optimal for all patients and antiarrhythmic drugs frequently ineffective and possessing serious adverse effects. A fluoroscopic or electroanatomic catheter-based approach is rapidly becoming one of the preferred treatments of AF.1-3 However, success rates are still not ideal and complications du...
متن کاملThe Future of Cardiac Mapping
Severe disorders of the heart rhythm that can lead to sudden cardiac death (SCD) are often treated by radio-frequency (RF) catheter ablation. Using fluoroscopy as an imaging guide, the procedure consists of inserting a catheter inside the heart, near the area from which originates the abnormal cardiac electrical activity, then delivering RF currents through the catheter tip to ablate the arrhyt...
